Sex Toy Review: The NEXUS ECLIPSE Vibrating & Stroking Penis Masturator by Topher Taylor
When Nexus informed me that they were making a penis stroker, I was shocked. Why? The UK-based brand (that I actually share an office with) are known for their penetrative toys — with a special focus on G-spots. The Nexus brand has a focus on luxury and state-of-the-art motor-powered function so I knew that whatever they came up with would be impressive. And worth the wait. I mention the wait as I found out about the toy months before COVID-19 and then the following worldwide lockdowns slowed everything down. But last month, my Nexus ECLIPSE finally arrived in its chic little matte-black-box. I was excited, to say the least.
When you remove ECLIPSE‘s wrapper, you can slide the box open to be immediately greeted by its silicone crescent shape resting on its side. Made from the same silky-smooth silicone as all other Nexus products, as you pick it Eclipse literally slide into place, thanks to 3 finger-shaped grooves on its neck – designed for a comfortable fit in your hand. The toy has clearly been cleverly designed for this purpose and it works a charm. The Eclipse doesn’t feature ABS plastic or metal segments like many other penis toys – in fact, it’s fully coated in silicone, letting you know that this was designed with luxury in mind. It feels expensive and has a good weight (245 grams to be exact) — assuring that it isn’t too heavy but also doesn’t feel too flimsy. You can instantly feel that the weight is juuuuusst right, enough to rest comfortably without extra effort required to hold it but also not too light that it’s easily knocked out of place. You will see (and feel) what I mean. The curved shape not only means it’s easy to control but this also means you can utilise this curvaceous shape for partner-play, with one person wearing it on their penis head and the other partner mounting it’s back.
So what is the power of this toy? Unique-selling-point? Eclipse was designed to focus on the most sensitive part of the penis – the tip. It has a smooth and rounded opening at the front for your penis-head, revealing a stroker pad with 3 ribs – which is where it’s stroking mechanisms directly stimulate the frenulum (the back of the penis head). At the top of its shape, there are 3 sleek buttons: Power, Vibration and Stroker. To get Eclipse going, put it on charge (it comes with a USB cable which magnetically connects to its rear) for 75 minutes to really wake it up. You can use your computers USB port or your mobile phones USB block charger – whatever you use to charge your other technology. You might find that it arrives with some power loaded, but I still advise to do the original 75-minute charge to wake it up and really welcome your ECLIPSE to the world. The last thing you want is for it to die mid-playtime. Am I right or am I right?
So, let’s get to the good stuff. How does it feel? Well, ECLIPSE is a silicone product so I began by applying a good amount of water-based lube (I used Nexus SLIP) to my dick and also rubbed it around the opening, – with a special focus on the stroker pad… (Side note: I typically like using silicone lube as I’m a silicone fan myself – but I never recommend using silicone lube on a silicone toy as it can really fuck with the silicone material and end up warping it. Eclipse isn’t a cheap toy, so the last thing you want to do its damage that gorgeous silicone it’s covered in. This isn’t anything to do with the quality of the product, by the way, it’s just some silicone-science-stuff)… to make sure there’s no friction. Be sure to wipe the excess lube off your hand before handling the toy, as the slickness of the water-based lube will mean your fingers are sliding around. I purposely didn’t play too much with the vibration and stroker settings before using so I could have a fun ‘click around’ as I play for the first time. I kind of wanted to discover ECLIPSE as I go, as Nexus proudly boast there it features ‘27 combinations of pleasure‘ (yes, twenty-seven) so I figured I’d just explore. And I’m glad that I did.
For a little bit of perspective, I am circumcised, so I was particularly curious to see how this toy would feel for me. Nexus advises using ECLIPSE whilst erect, so I ‘woke myself up’ and placed myself in. I’m particularly well-endowed and have sometimes had issues fitting comfortably into average-sized sex toys without feeling too much pressure – so I can reassure anyone with the same concern that ECLIPSE is fine.
The sensation as you slide in is instantly noticeable, as ECLIPSE sends tingling vibrations into your penis head and the back of the shaft. It’s ticklish and intense. If you are particularly sensitive (or uncircumsised) I would advise putting yourself in without any functions playing as it might set you up for ‘completion’ a little early. There are a few ways to enjoy ECLIPSE, the first being simply resting your penis in the canal and letting the toy do the work as you browse through its settings. Another is to hold it and grind it around as the functions go to work (this is what I did). The curved shape allows you to easily rock it around and guide the stroker all over the back of the dick head. Personally, I moved it around as to not ‘get used’ to the sensation in one spot. Take advantage of the 3 ribs on the pad. Do so by rubbing your penis all over it, up and down and side-to-side. Also, apply a generous amount of lube to help the vibrations tingle through.
ANOTHER way to enjoy ECLIPSE is as a couple’s toy (if you’re lucky to have someone during COVID-19). You can do this by placing it over the penis and sitting on or ‘mounting’ it, so the pressure of your perineum pushes the toy down harder on the penis – with the finger grooves grinding against the gap between your balls/vulva and butthole. Bringing yourself to orgasm with ECLIPSE take’s a bit of time, relaxation and getting used to this new type of sensation. If you’re a penis-owner who masturbates often with your hand and/or sex toys, you’ll need to have some patience. I actually advise dedicating a good amount of time to your experience with ECLIPSE. You need to lay back, fight the ‘urgency’ and allow your body to feel it properly without wanting to grab your dick and tug on it.
